PCSA Membership Information
Membership Criteria
In order to be considered for membership, you must:
- Be a practicing surgeon in the Pacific Coast region for two years prior to the application deadline and be Board certified
- Pay dues in a timely manner. The first dues payment must be paid in order to remain a member in good standing. Dues notices are sent out each June for the following fiscal year. Failure to pay your dues on an annual basis may result in restriction or cancellation of your membership.
- Attend at least one (1) Annual Meeting and one (1) Caucus Meeting in a 4-year period. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of your membership.
Membership Categories
- ACTIVE:Â Those members who are 59 years and younger and attend annual meetings. Active members pay dues.
- SENIOR:Â Members aged 60-75 years and dues paying. Senior members are not required to attend annual meetings to maintain good standing.
- NON-RESIDENT:Â Under 59 years of age and not currently residing in British Columbia, Oregon, Washington, California, Hawaii, or Pacific Mexico. Non-resident members pay dues unless fully retired and are not required to attend annual meetings.
- HONORARY:Â Honorary members are those designated by the Executive Council for an exceptional relationship with PCSA. They do not pay dues and are not required to attend annual meetings.
- RETIRED:Â Members 76 years of age or older receive Retired status and are not expected to attend annual meetings or pay dues.
Membership Dues
PCSA dues are collected July 1st through February 1st. Annual dues are $375. You may pay by logging into your member profile and paying the associated invoice or you may print it and mail payment by check.
Members who are not paid by October 31st will be considered in arrears and may receive delinquent notices. Additionally, the Executive Council reserves the right to deny attendance at the annual meeting if annual dues are not up-to-date.
PCSA New Member Applications
PCSA membership applications are due July 1 of each year.
Notification of acceptance is given by October 30. Applications for 2027 are now closed. Applications for the 2028 class will open in March, 2027.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON YOUR ELECTION TO MEMBERSHIP:
If you submit an abstract for PCSA's Annual Meeting, you will be required to have a PCSA Member Sponsor on your submission.Â
YOU WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR MEMBERSHIP UNTIL ALL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED:
- Each candidate must complete a membership application
- Three PCSA members must agree to sponsor you (via your contact). Each PCSA Sponsor must send a letter to PCSA supporting your application prior to the application deadline. At least one of your sponsor letters should come from a member of your local Caucus. It is your responsibility to confirm that sponsor letters have been received by PCSA Headquarters. Please contact your sponsor directly to ensure the letters are submitted by July 1st.
NOTE: If you save your submission and create a login, you will be able to go back and upload the letters directly with your application.
The next steps in the application process are as follows:
- PCSA Members will discuss your application at the Annual Caucus Meeting and vote.
- All applications will be presented for a vote before the PCSA Council Members in September 2026 and submitted for full membership vote by October 1, 2026. Following this vote, confirmation letters will be sent to accepted new members.
- You have until November 30th to accept your membership.
As a reminder, PCSA New Members are required to pay the member dues invoice which is sent to you in July following your election to membership. You are also required to attend the following Annual Meeting to be inducted as a new member.
Please be mindful that missing two consecutive Annual Meetings as a new member automatically removes you from membership and you will have to resubmit your application for review the following year. By submitting your application, you are agreeing to the above terms and requirements.
A note for Sponsors: Sponsoring a new member requires a completed membership application form by the candidate. Letters must be submitted by July 1. The link to submit your letter(s) is below. If you need assistance, please contact us at admin@pcsaonline.org.
